Tips for terms that actually get paid
- Write the date, not just the term. "Net 30" leaves the client to do the maths; "Due by 5 November 2026" doesn't. The line this tool gives you includes both.
- Shorter is usually fine for freelancers. Large companies may insist on Net 30 or longer, but for a small project Net 7 or Net 15 is common. Agree it before you start.
- International clients: bank transfers can take a few working days, so leave room if they pay by SWIFT. Say who pays the transfer fees.
- Late fees need agreement up front. If you plan to charge one, put it in the terms. Our late fee calculator works out the amount.
